FAQ

  • What is Cross Country Club?

XCC is a non-equity, membership-based aircraft share. Members pay an annual fee to access a curated fleet of aircraft at hourly dry rates — with no ownership, maintenance, or hangar responsibilities.

  • Is XCC a flight school or FBO?

No. XCC is a club, not a flight school or FBO. While members may receive instruction in club aircraft, it is not open to the general public for rentals or lessons.

  • Where is XCC based?

North Central State Airport (KSFZ) in Rhode Island. Additional aircraft and locations will expand as the fleet grows.

  • Can I join as a student pilot?

No — you need to be a Private Pilot or higher, with at least 80 hours total time. XCC does not allow student pilots to operate club aircraft as PIC.

  • How does membership work?

You choose a tier that grants access to aircraft at or below that category. Higher tiers unlock more capable aircraft. Annual fees vary by tier.

  • What are the membership tiers?

    We offer five levels:

    Spinner (basic trainers)

    Pathfinder (entry-level singles)

    Voyager (traveling singles)

    Commander (twin engine)

    Mariner (seaplane access)

  • Can I move up to a different tier later?

Yes — tier upgrades can be made at any time. You will be responsible for the cost difference between tiers with a prorated fee adjustment.

  • Is there a limit on members per aircraft?

Yes. Membership is capped per aircraft, per tier to ensure availability. The member maximum varies by tier.

  • Can I cancel my membership?

Memberships are annual and non-refundable once activated. Members can opt not to renew with 30 days’ written notice.

  • Do I need a checkout for each aircraft type?

Yes. All members must be checked out by an XCC-approved CFI in each type they wish to operate.

  • Can I bring my own CFI?

Yes, for dual instruction — and only if pre-approved by XCC at least 72 hours in advance. Checkouts must be done by an XCC CFI.

  • How is fuel handled?

Rates are dry. We refuel at home base. Off-base, buy the minimum fuel needed to return safely. XCC will fuel all aircrafts at home base and bill you for only the fuel you actually used!

  • Can I take aircraft overnight?

Yes, with prior approval. Members may also book longer trips, subject to blackout dates for maintenance.

  • What if I damage an airplane?

You are recommended to carry renters insurance. In the event of damage, you’re responsible for XCC’s $1000 deductible and any remaining balance in cases of negligence or uncovered events.

  • How do I book an aircraft?

Through the FlightCircle portal at thexcclub.com. Everything runs through your profile — scheduling, payments, documentation, and squawk reports.

  • When am I charged?

Usage is billed nightly or at the conclusion of your reservation.

  • What do I do if I find a squawk?

Report immediately via FlightCircle or email us at thexcclub@gmail.com. Include photos when possible. Do not fly with unresolved issues unless cleared by XCC.

  • Are maintenance logs available?

Yes. Essential inspection data is viewable in each aircraft’s profile. Full records are available upon request.

  • Can I fly in formation or formation clinics?

Yes — as long as it is not commercial in nature, and all safety requirements are met.

  • What’s prohibited?

    Commercial use of any kind

Use by student pilots as PIC

Operating aircraft without proper endorsements or checkouts

Removing ARROW documents from the aircraft
